«غلامعلی بسکی» معروف به "بابا بسکی" در سبزوار به دنیا آمد. پدرش از روستای بسک بود. پس از تحصیلات متوسطه در سبزوار، برای تحصیل طبّ به دانشگاه علوم پزشكي تهران گام گذاشت و پس از دوره پزشک عمومی، در سال ١٣٤٥با درجه تخصصی جراحي زنان از دانشگاه تهران فارغالتحصيل شد.

در همان سال ۱۳۴۵ بيمارستان و زايشگاهی را در شهر گنبدکاووس تأسیس کرد و پس از آن در ۱۳۴۹ زندگی شهری را رها کرد، به جنگل‌های گلستان پناه برد و به مرور تبدیل به یک گیاه‌خوارِ مطلق شد و زندگیِ خود را وقفِ دفاع از محیط زیست و تبلیغِ گیاه‌خواری کرد.

از آب چشمه مي نوشید و هر روز دوش آب سرد می گرفت. این طبیب طبیعت دوست، تمام اموال خود را برای فعالیت های محیط زیستی و امور خیزیه، وقف کرد و همواره با شور و هیجان مثال زدنی به دفاع از طبیعت بی زبان برخاست، از تهدیدها و زیاده خواهی انسان و تلاشش برای نابودی هستی سخن می گفت.

پزشک سبزاندیشی که سفارش ابوالحسن خرقانی را تکرار و اجرا کرد و نشان داد برای کمک به هم‌نوع نباید از ایمانش پرسید و متاثر از جهان بینی مولوی، حافظ و سعدی تصمیم گرفت به طبیعت پناه ببرد.
